Chloe Brotheridge, Hypnotherapist – Practitioner in Focus

Chloe Brotheridge
Chloe Brotheridge

Chloe Brotheridge is from Hackney, East London.

What sort of Practitioner are you?

Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner specialising in anxiety and stress management.

How long have you been practising?

Just over 3 years now.

Do you see clients from home or in a clinic?

I see clients at my clinic near Old Street in The City, on Harley Street as well as online via Skype.

What problems/issues do you treat most frequently?

It’s commonly anxiety and stress related issues. I see lots of perfectionists, worriers and those with low self esteem.

What are your biggest frustrations running your practice?

Getting going in the first place was hard as I had a full time job when I first set up my practice so I was working very long days. Now I’m a full time hypnotherapist it’s easier. Since I only see clients for a few sessions, marketing has to be a constant focus and that takes a lot of time and results are never assured!

What do you find hardest about your daily work?

The marketing side of it takes up a lot of time, but it’s also good fun. But really, there’s nothing too ‘hard’ about working with clients as mostly it’s quite relaxing and rewarding. However I’m a naturally empathetic person and I have to work on not taking on board the problems of other people as my own at times.

Do you find your professional body supportive and helpful? Do they help you create connections with fellow therapists?

My professional body is the NCH and I really value their newsletter. I’ve found supervisors through the NCH and they run a yearly conference. I also get the occasional client through their website.

How do you balance work and life? (Stress management/avoiding burnout…)

Luckily being self employed means you can often take time out for yourself when you need to. I enjoy meditation, self hypnosis and singing to help keep me calm. I work a couple of evenings a week but I have to make sure I keep some evenings free from clients or I would never see my partner!

What frustrates you most about the way mental health is dealt with in your country?

I believe drugs have their place but they are perhaps overused for things like anxiety, sleep issues, depression and IBS when talking therapy or hypnotherapy would get a more natural result whilst treating the root cause.

Can you tell us about your most uplifting experience treating a recent client? (anonymously of course!)

I recently had a client come to me having suffered with IBS for 20 years. After 3 sessions she had a 90% improvement – she said the sessions had been life changing. I was thrilled for her!
