Help your clients escape the prison of their negative beliefs with the art of conversational reframing
For a therapist, it’s agonizing to witness.
There’s your client, tormenting and berating themselves. Round and round they talk; explaining why they feel so bad, why what happened was so dreadful, how trapped they are.
You desperately want to relieve them of that burden.
And of course – and this is even more frustrating – arguing with them doesn’t help at all.
No matter what you say, it only seems to make them even more entrenched in their negative beliefs. They seem lost in the depths of their sadness, anger and regret.
But there is a way to get through.
Why reframing is a core skill for every practitioner
Every practitioner needs to help their clients change how they think.
But more than that, our clients need to change how they feel.
And there is no quicker way to unlock a strongly-held belief than a well-crafted, carefully delivered reframe.
But we all know that’s easier said than done.
To be effective, a reframe must:
- Connect with the client’s current reality (rather than the practitioner’s!).
- Be delivered at the right time (this is such an important factor, but rarely discussed).
- Present a new reality that is just as acceptable, but makes them feel good instead of bad.
- Present a new reality that is so much more compelling than the old, more restricted way of perceiving their reality.
- Change the way the client feels, not just the way they think. This is a subtle point that is often missed when so called “cognitive reframing” is used.
That beautiful moment when you watch a reframe work its magic…
We’ve all attempted reframes and had them fall flat. It’s a gut-wrenching moment as you realise you’ve made it harder to get a therapeutic gain because you’ve raised your client’s unconscious defences.
But then you know that beautiful moment when a reframe ‘sticks’. Your client stops in their tracks, becomes silent, they take on that thousand-yard stare, then they ‘come back to the room’, often with a chuckle or shaking their head. Their reality has been permanently shifted.
But the question is, how to make your hit rate with reframes much more reliable? How to develop an intuition for what reframe will work, when to deliver it, and how?
How Conversational Reframing will develop your reframing skills
The Conversational Reframing course will imbue your mind with a whole new way of seeing reframing with dozens of examples, a new way of seeing reframes, interactive exercises in how to construct them, video and audio. Almost by osmosis, you’ll become a better reframer.
In addition to the many reframe examples, stories and metaphors in the course, perhaps an even greater benefit will be how it helps you creatively, spontaneously and instantly produce the right reframe for the right, unique person just at the right time.
Reframing = wisdom?
It’s not just your clients who will notice your new reframing abilities.
If you can reframe artfully and nimbly, it demonstrates the ability to hold multiple contexts in the mind at one time, perhaps the most obvious sign of wisdom. When you’re skilful with reframes, you can make everyone around you feel better without them necessarily knowing why. (And without looking like the ‘positivity police’!).
Here’s a quick summary of what Conversational Reframing contains. The whole course is geared to quickly improving your reframing skills. Dozens of reframe examples which seed your mind with patterns and approaches to make you into a flexibly-minded reframing artist.

“This has helped me personally as well as professionally.”
Totally LOVED this course, and I extend heartfelt gratitude that you’ve created all these wonderful courses. This has helped me personally as well as professionally. With thanks, coming from Australia to the UK.
Tammy Hatherill, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Reiki/Tarot Master and Teacher, Darwin, Australia.
“Despite over thirty years in the therapy field, I am always amazed at the realization I will never know it all.”
I have just finished the course. Despite over thirty years in the therapy field, I am always amazed at the realization I will never know it all. At the same time, I am also so pleased to realize there are always exciting things to learn. Surely, I will never live long enough to know it all, but be happy to have simply continued to keep learning. More practice will undoubtedly help me become more efficient and succinct in replying to client’s expressions of their perceptions using reframing.
Stephen Pinsent, Registered Psychologist, Corner Brook, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.
“I found that it has opened an interesting new door in approaching the “yes, but” or “the sky is falling” client.”
I learned a lot from the Conversational Reframing Course. I found that it has opened an interesting new door in approaching the “yes, but” or “the sky is falling” client. I enjoy modeling conversational reframing, showing the client how to reframe their own statements. It is encouraging to see the client begin to reframe his own statements. I believe that is a sign that I am doing my job. Reframing can be used in many everyday situation at home and with friends.
Charlene Wolfe, Certified Hypnotist, Texas, USA.
“I would definitely recommend this course to any therapist wishing to broaden their skills base”
The Conversational Reframing course provided me not only with theory, information and application possibilities but especially helped me practice and hone my reframing skills.
The fact that Mark provided me with feedback when I requested it, was an invaluable part of the course for me as it ensured that my reframes were on the right track.
I would definitely recommend this course to any therapist wishing to broaden their skills base.
Dr. Gabby Eadie, Counselling Psychologist, Klerksdorp, South Africa.
“I would highly recommend this course to anyone involved with professional change work.”
The Conversational Reframing course helps you to further develop your skills when it comes to creating shifts in our client’s perceptions-which is a primary reason they come to see us. I would highly recommend this course to anyone involved with professional change work.
James Malone, Life Enhancement Hypnotist, New Jersey, USA.
“Conversational Reframing has helped to broaden my knowledge base tremendously!”
I’m a fairly new hypnotist and the Conversational Reframing course helped to solidify practices that I had already been doing instinctively, but now giving me the WHY behind the practices. Conversational Reframing has helped to broaden my knowledge base tremendously!
Kathleen Turek-Said, Hypnotist, Arizona, USA.
“I am so excited to delve into the pursuit of finding and mastering old and new myths, fables, stories and analogies to add to my therapeutic tool belt!”
I just finished this course and absolutely loved it. As a former school teacher and avid reader, I have a library of “favorite” stories I’ve read and reread with students, with only a few I’ve come to be able to tell well from memory. I am so excited to delve into my box of saved books to start memorizing these known favorites and to delve into the pursuit of finding and mastering old and new myths, fables, stories and analogies to add to my therapeutic tool belt! Thank you for the lovely explanations and examples to teach us how the use of analogies and stories along with other reframing techniques can provide a link for tweaking the unconscious mind’s perspective in both hypnosis and in “casual” conversation. I’ll be reviewing and using your examples as I learn to incorporate this method that has truly grabbed my “lover of stories” heart. Great course!
Lea Siebert, Hypnotherapist-Acupuncturist, Hawaii, USA.
“At the end I felt confident to use the reframing technique intuitively in a number of different interactions”
The presentation is excellent and for me the course was just right in delivery, length, and content. Each piece of the jigsaw leading to the next until we reached the whole complete picture. I particularly like the way that at the end I felt confident to use the reframing technique intuitively in a number of different interactions.
Madeleine Godinho, Call center support and engagement, West Yorkshire, UK.
“Taking this gave me a real confidence boost and awareness. I use it a lot with clients presenting with anxiety and depression”
I learnt about reframing in a basic NLP course and did this really out of curiosity. What the reframing course provided was something much more profound and gave me a deeper level of understanding of what reframing can do to alleviate many traumas. Taking this gave me a real confidence boost and awareness. I use it a lot with clients presenting with anxiety and depression.
Carole Randell, Psychotherapist and Counsellor, Whakatane, New Zealand.
“I really enjoyed the course and love that you provide us with the support that you do.”
Thank you so much. It makes perfect sense. I really enjoyed the course and love that you provide us with the support that you do. It can be quite a lonely profession working as a therapist from home and its great to have a community to talk to. Best wishes.
“I learned many possible ways to help a client shift and learn. I would recommend this program to all therapists.”
We were provided vignettes and had time to think about a way to reframe a client’s statement to change it from negative to positive. Being able to read the ideas of several other counselors was very helpful. I learned many possible ways to help a client shift and learn. I would recommend this program to all therapists.
“An excellent course.”
An excellent course. Focuses upon the importance of frames and context in order to facilitate new ways forward that are all too often unconscious and sometimes overlooked.
Sid Oliver, Independent M/H Social Worker & Therapist, SE.England, UK.
Why take an online course?
We trained people face-to-face for a decade while we ran our diploma course at Brighton University, in the south of England. When we moved our training online in 2008 in order to reach a worldwide audience, we were a little sceptical.
We assumed people wouldn’t learn so well online; that live training had to be more effective than online training. But, as it turns out, we were wrong. In traditional face-to-face training, you see the demonstrations only once and hear the presentations only once. And, inevitably, when you go away and try to implement your new skills, questions come up.
But, of course, the training has finished, so you can’t ask them. With an online course, you can try things out, then come back to the group to ask any questions you have, review the relevant part of the training, and then go back and give it another shot. We’ve found people who learn online learn more deeply and thoroughly, which is why we now train people internationally. The process of learning, trying something out, then coming back with questions and reflections seems to work incredibly well when learning new therapy skills.
I’m not good with computers, is this online course for me?
A lot of the people who take our courses are not very tech-savvy (therapists don’t seem to be computer people, in our experience!). That’s why the team here at Uncommon Knowledge has designed the online training platform to be as easy to use as possible.
So if you can use a mouse, use your email, and type, you’ll be able to do this course. In addition, your course leader Mark Tyrrell is a self-confessed technophobe and so Uncommon U has been created with him in mind. We also have a friendly support team on hand to help you with any questions you may have.
Why learn from Uncommon Knowledge?
When it comes to teaching hypnosis, we’ve covered a lot of miles. In the beginning, there was our workshop ‘How to Use Hypnosis to Help Yourself and Others’, which we taught to over 2,000 people over 15 years or so. Then came our hypnotherapy diploma course and accredited UK course, which trained hundreds of hypnotherapists who are still practicing around the UK.
We’ve spent a lot of time refining how we teach hypnotherapy and the psychology you need to make it most effective, and we think we have created something quite special in Conversational Reframing. But, of course, you are really the only one who can make that judgment, which is why all our courses are backed by our 90-day money back guarantee. So you can give it a try in confidence that you’re protected.
